Water Recycling and Reuse in Hotels and Island Resorts
For six months in 2018, the Philippine government shut down Boracay Island, the country’s most popular tourist destination for having inadequate sanitation and sewerage infrastructure leading to unsustainable tourism development and operations. A resort need not worry of such sanctions when it does not even have to discharge its sewage, having found non-potable reuse applications for it.
Amanpulo (Aman Resorts) enjoys this ability. Metro Pacific Water Solutions created for it a closed-loop system that reduces its overall water potable water footprint, decreasing its dependence on costly desalination operations. Reused water is used in non-potable applications such as restrooms, landscape management, and general grounds keeping.
